The Excitement level is in full swing as we started the new year with a bang. Now, It’s time to close out 2020 with positive note. 2020 may not be our favourite year as it has been a little bit stressful one due to Covid 19 pandemic, yet the lessons it taught us will always be precious. It literally passed us in our lane and caused reflection on how to invest time & attention. Let’s focus on ending 2020 with much strong and welcome 2021 with happiness and joy. We at Bevywise have made a crucial initial step in developing Industry 4.0 manufacturing solutions in 2020. A little throwback to 2020, how & why we stepped in as Industry 4.0 solutions provider.

Bye Bye 2020

For most of us, 2020 will be one of the most unforgettable years on record due to the rise and impact of Covid 19. It has dramatically changed the way we live. Working from home, keeping ourselves away from public places and events, lack of necessities and travel restrictions are just a few of the personal disruptions that take place. People have agonized a lot this year, that many of them face financial drawbacks and can’t get back & find out solution. The coronavirus pandemic has brought earth-shattering change to almost every segment of life — how we live, where we live, where we work, what we do for work, what family means, what is important. Moreover, on the business side, the entire way people do business has transformed completely. The world was completely on halt for a months-long time. However, the good thing is, even after getting disrupted severely by the pandemic, we come out us true warriors. Thank you supreme being for a great team which makes the Bevywise move forward with great determination. A plenty of esteem for our customers who have trusted us and our partners who believed us .

Stepping into the Industry 4.0

Though there were small drawbacks in every business field during the pandemic, we started working from home with the strong belief in us. It worked out, and we have done a good launches & product updates in 2020.

One of the major areas where we have made our footprints in 2020 is Industry 4.0. The term “Internet of Things” (IoT) flows over all deliberations like a huge wave related to manufacturing production of the future. For years, manufacturing industries have been facing challenges regarding improving efficient productivity and manufacturing operations. With huge competition in the market, they are facing the challenge of gaining substantial operating profits. Therefore manufacturing industries must completely overhaul & renovate their cost bases and their production strategies. That’s why, we are slowly stepping into the areas of manufacturing industry with our industry 4.0 solutions. We decided to move on as a Industry 4.0 solutions vendor since the start of the year. We have set our target to provide completely flexible solutions to help manufacturers in their production goals with the high level capability of collecting & transmitting data across the manufacturing processes. We already have OEE software / production monitoring system (Pace DPR) as one of our Industry 4.0 solutions to  provide manufacturers a complete visibility and analytics into production. The first implementation of Pace DPR has been done successfully in the manufacturing unit of one of our customers at Bengaluru. So far, Pace DPR is proving its capability in a positive note. We are still working more on improving the functionalities of Pace DPR.

And also, we are working on MES (Manufacturing Execution System) to provide a complete production management solution. The development process is going on in a rapid phase and we are expecting to release it soon. We keep on sending proposals and providing live demos of our solutions for the manufacturing industries. Not only, Pace DPR & MES, we also have Energy management solution, Machine predictive maintenance solution which are built using one of our IoT frameworks.

Looking forward for a better 2021

Covid 19 disruption creates market boom for IoT and connected technology and it is still expected to grow high. The major factors driving the growth include, remote monitoring & growing adoption of smart technologies. Manufacturing industry is mostly believed to be impacted by IIoT technology. This is because, the impact created by covid 19 pandemic made them to speedily adopt latest technologies to get back on the track. They are extensively relying on remote-based monitoring & management in their business operations, enhancing the demand for Industry 4.0 solutions.

Without any doubt, 2021 will be a biggest opening for Digital transformation technology/IoT driven businesses. It is practically impossible for manufacturing industries to bypass the Industry 4.0 solutions. We are wholly delighted to connect with more prospects / businesses in the upcoming journey of 2021.

Key Issues in Traditional Production Management

Data Silos : Present day Industries often have machinery from a broad range of suppliers that generate data in unique formats which gives rise to data silos. This becomes the barrier for wide survey & decision-making across the whole industrial operations.

Lacking visibility : Deep visibility into the individual asset’s performance is lacking in the traditional SCADA systems and it is restricted to the shop floor. Assets can’t be managed anywhere, any time because the machines / equipment data can be viewed & accessed only inside the plant.

Network Latency : The connection between the industrial equipment & the production management should be highly available. When the connection fails unexpectedly in low bandwidth scenarios, it will cause severe damage to the equipment.

Security Threats : Industrial tracking & visibility is necessary for industrial manufacturing. Some Industries are monitoring data by connecting every user’s mobile phone to the mod bus interface on the individual monitoring console. This mandated the professional to be near every production control dashboard to view the status. Besides that, security issues will prevent them from connecting the mod bus protocol directly to the internet.

Connecting the Industry with MQTT

The Pace DPR is well adapted to address the issues mentioned above, and it serves as a quantitative tool for determining productivity within an industry. The Pace DPR is built over our broker which is with MQTT protocol. MQTT has an attribute, Last Will & Testament which permits any application to trigger a message when there is an unexpected disconnection between devices & server. For example, considering a scenario for manufacturing use cases, when a manufacturing equipment fails, then the entire production line will be instructed immediately to take action in order to prevent equipment damage. This enables monitoring of manufacturing equipment, SCADA networks, sensor devices, and scenarios involving low bandwidth, such as radio and cellular networks.

When it comes to data silos, one common server/platform which can break down the data silos that exist at different levels of automation is necessary. This can be reliably done by MQTT Broker which uses MQTT protocol for communicating reliably between devices thus avoiding unwanted data silos. And also, security threats arise when the equipment is directly connected to the internet. Hence, the solution should be connecting the production line with multiple equipment in one server & making it available in a more secured way. Over the past few months, we were building products / solutions for Manufacturing Industry above our MQTT Broker. Our focus was to enable manufacturing Industries to connect their machinery in a reliable and scalable manner using MQTT. This IIoT application will automate the complete data collection, analysis and decision making process of manufacturing industry.

Why MQTT is used in production management system?

MQTT is a global standard for connecting devices that is getting momentum in smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0. MQTT clients, as we all know, send data to a central MQTT server/broker, from which it is distributed to clients who have subscribed. Consider the case where MQTT clients are manufacturing machines, peculiar sensors, SCADA systems, or MES, among other things. MQTT enables for bi-directional messaging and the transfer of measured data from machines to the cloud. ERP/other systems, such as SCADA, can also create a command to be delivered throughout the shop floor if they are integrated. All client connections and subscribed topics for each client will be tracked by the central MQTT broker/server. As a result, MQTT may be utilised more safely in the manufacturing industry for data exchange between machines and the entire production line.

Performance analysis: The efficiency of a machine’s performance in carrying out the production process is measured by its performance. The amount of production and the optimum run time of the operating process are used to calculate speed losses, which describes how the engine’s 100 performance is dependent on the amount of planned production time and the ideal cycle time of the operating process.

Quality Analysis: A Quality score is a comparison of the number of good parts versus the number of rejects, or it describes the equipment’s ability to generate items that meet the criteria. Quality concerns quality losses, such as the number of damaged products associated with equipment, which is then transformed into time by determining how much time the equipment is utilised to manufacture the damaged product. 

By providing data on KPIs that tied up with the real-time status of your shop floor, which makes this machine monitoring system an extremely useful tool for improving productivity. Performing analysis with the shift based cumulative reports & hourly production reports, will uncover areas to improve OEE manufacturing by connecting dots & eliminating the gap between machine performance & its efficiency. This boosts the preventive maintenance of assets by tracking & monitoring machines at individual level which allows operators to see when & where the flaws in the production line occurs. The real-time data on OEE & production is just a number unless it is turned into an excellent insight & action.
